Testimonials

  • LA was one of the greatest things in my development as a leader and a new person in the Community. It challenged me about what I had assumed about myself and why I needed the others that were in this class with me! The number of times I have called on my classmates since my May graduation is too many to recall. EVERY one in that room I now consider leaders that will attack the issues that must be addressed!

Leadership Albany Moves Out With Program Enhancements

Post the merger between the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Institute and Leadership Albany earlier this year, activities have intensified thanks to the focused efforts of the current Leadership Albany board.   The chosen theme for this new Leadership Albany year “Albany on the Rise” appears to be right in line with our local thriving community.

Leadership Albany has experienced a smooth transition into Albany’s single leadership organization and has strengthened the goals of providing a first class blend of the traditional focus on Albany with professional leadership training opportunities offered by UGA’s J. W. Fanning Institute.

The current 2017/18 LA class members, published on the LA Web site August 24th, consists of 28 professionals who enjoyed the opening of the class year with a Fall Retreat hosted at the Albany State University-West Campus.

The mid-September retreat included an agenda with enhancements that were introduced by the JW Fanning Institute such as ice breaking exercises, team building exercises and a comprehensive look at the results of the Emergenetics survey taken by class members prior to the start of the retreat. Along with the “class work” the weekend included Friday evening cocktails at Merry Acres, followed by a progressive dinner for all.  Ms. Patsy Martin, guest speaker and originating founder of Leadership Albany, provided an inspiring message for the group.

Izzie Sadler, LA Board member and Chair of the Mentorship Committee introduced the Leadership Albany Connect Program to the group. This Connections/Mentor program is yet another new element to the line-up in the Leadership Albany experience and will provide participants with opportunities that allow them to connect with local professionals within the community.

Moving forward, LA Program Day activities will include a blend of the old and new as the class moves through the class year.  Many alumni engagement activities are planned and will be incorporated into program days throughout the year.  This new line-up promises to serve as a great opportunity for alumni and LA Class 2017/18 engagement, making this a banner year for Leadership Albany. Local individuals and businesses, along with larger corporations are catching the spirit and intent of Leadership Albany with Sponsorship dollars.  Check out the Sponsorship opportunities outlined on the Leadership Albany web site.  Follow the “new” Leadership Albany with regular updates via our social media pages and www.LeadershipAlbany.org.
